well, i've been using Red Hat 8.0 and Mandrake 9.0 for a while now and i'm really liking what i'm seeing. however! i felt that i knew enough to move onto a MANLY distro, namely, the almighty gentoo. for the uninitiated, gentoo is a source-based distro. this means that the entire thing is built at install-time from source code. the end result is a super-fast, ultra-smooth, mega-zord distro that is very very customized and tweaked for your exact hardware. up-to-date software and a very easy-to-use portage (software management) system round out gentoo's pros. gentoo is great! i will never use another Linux distro as long as i (and gentoo)

so yeah, i made the switch a week or two ago. the switch to GNU/Linux. all i have to say is Linux is so ready for prime-time it isn't funny. back the slack 7.0 days i went thru kernel compilin' and patchin' to get USB working and now it autodetects everything you can throw at it. 2ez 2ez. i had a problem with UT2003 not having sound and mplayer (video player) not having sound so i was like.... should i switch? then i updated my sound drivers to the latest version. everything works, i'm switched. i think it is to the benefit of all self-respecting computer users to declare their wIndependance! windows is getting needlessly complex and th
